The first visible sign of the Visegrad economic co-operation immediately made a political impact within the EU. The EUObserver has quoted French President Nicolas Sarkozy as he criticized the meeting of Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, who last week met ahead of the EU summit to talk through their positions on the topic of the day.
Speaking after a meeting of EU leaders last week, Mr Sarkozy said "if they have to meet regularly before each council, that could raise questions."
The EUObserver article also points out that not only the Benelux block, but also the French and Germany premiers share the habit of co-ordinating their positions before the EU summits.
Sarkozy's frustration may be an indirect proof of the value and weight of the Visegrad co-operation, once it is done properly.
